Wockhardt Hospital conducts screening camp for women police staff of Mira Bhayandar, Thane
The programme is expected to run for about a month wherein more women police staff members will participate to get themselves evaluated
Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road, successfully conducted an oncology screening programme recently for women police staff of Mira Bhayandar, Thane at Wockhardt Hospital Mira road. A complete blood count (CBC), pap smear, mammography, gynac consultations and an ultrasound scan (USG) test was offered to them free of cost. The programme is expected to run for about a month wherein more women police staff members will participate to get themselves evaluated.
On this occasion, Shantaram Valvi, DYSP, Mira Road; Dr Shashikant Bhosale, DYSP, Bhayandar and Dr Pankaj Dhamija, Unit Head from the hospital were also present.
A team of oncologists and gynecologists consisting of Professor (Dr) Mallika Tewari, Senior Consultant and Programme Lead, Surgical Oncology; Dr Bilsi Mittal, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynecology; Dr Mangala Patil, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynecology carried out the check-ups.
Breast cancer and cervical cancer continue to be major public health problems in India as the number of cases is rising at a rapid rate. Similarly, a large number of women also suffer from gynecological problems such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), uterine fibroids, endometriosis and ovarian cysts. To help women police staff of Mira Road take charge of their health, Wockhardt Hospital came up with this initiative.
Dr Mallika Tewari, Senior Consultant and Programme Lead, Surgical Oncology, Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road, said, “Women police staff is always on the go as they shoulder the responsibility of ensuring the safety, health and possessions of citizens. Thus, they do not get enough time to take care of themselves and tend to ignore their health problems. It is our duty to help these women police staff members to overcome their health issues and lead a healthy life. This free oncology screening programme will allow in early detection of breast cancer, cervical cancer and gynecological problems by helping women police staff seek appropriate treatment and improve the quality of life.”
The police staff members were also taught how to do a self-breast examination, every month, and informed about the HPV vaccine for cervical cancer, as a correct diagnosis and timely treatment is the key to tackle these major health issues.”
