The programme includes introductory and explanatory talks by experts in various branches of plastic surgery

On the occasion of National Plastic Surgery Day, the department of Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery, Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Mumbai under the auspices of Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSI) is organising ‘National Plastic Surgery Awareness Week’ from July 13-17, 2015, 5.30 to 7.30 pm at Choksi Auditorium, TMH.

The programme includes introductory and explanatory talks by experts in various branches of plastic surgery. Reportedly, each day is dedicated to one speciality namely trauma care, reconstruction post cancer surgery, burns, birth defects and cosmetic surgery.

Dr Prabha Yadav, President, APSI and Head of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery at TMH said, “Even in the current information age it is surprising that plastic surgery is perceived only as cosmetic surgery for the privileged. The diverse nature of the branch and its problem solving ability is poorly understood by doctors, medical students, paramedicals and common man. This endeavour is an attempt to bridge this information gap, increase awareness and utilisation of plastic surgical skills available across the country for the benefit of patients. This is also an attempt to inspire young medical students to become plastic surgeons in future.”

The invited speakers are stalwarts from across the country. They include Dr Amresh Baliarsing, HOD, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, BYL Nair Hospital; Dr Hari Venkatramani, Senior Consultant, Microsurgeon and Plastic Surgeon at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore; Dr Rajendra Nehete, Senior Plastic Surgeon and Microsurgeon from Nashik; Dr Vinaykant Shankhdhar, Consultant at Tata Memorial Hospital; Dr Arvind Vartak, Senior Consultant and pioneer in burns surgery in India; Dr Nitin Mokal, honorary at Grant Medical College, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Bombay Hospital and Research Centre.
