The theme for this year’s conference was ‘Interdisciplinary Approach to Healthcare’

The Faculty of Health and Biological Sciences (FoHBS), Symbiosis International (Deemed University) recently organised SYMHEALTH 2018 at SIU Lavale, Pune.

SYMHEALTH, an annual mega event with a legacy of 19 years, has been attracting around 1200 professionals from all verticals of the healthcare such as hospitals, insurance, IT, medical equipment and devices companies, medico legal firms, NGOs, clinical research organisations, from all over India and abroad. The conference had sessions chaired by a cohort of stalwart speakers, contemporary topics and will provide opportunities for stakeholders beyond academia and industry, to exchange insights and to share resources.

The theme this year is ‘Interdisciplinary Approach to Healthcare’ which underscores the importance of applying integrative strategies to the theory and practice of health sciences. Through a collaborative and trans-disciplinary approach alone achievable gains can be accrued in the field of healthcare.

Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean, FoHBS, SIU explained that the FoHBS prides itself on preparing the next generation of academics, practitioners and researchers who are trained to apply an integrative approach to the study of Health Sciences. He further mentioned that at FoHBS, we follow diverse pedagogic and research traditions and employ a number of disciplines including scientific, socio-behavioural and technological determinants of health and wellness. The theme of the conference will underpin the need to draw on the full range of complementary streams and professions within the Health Sciences and beyond.

The academic sessions, keynote lectures, workshops, and research and poster paper presentations are all designed to present a comprehensive collage of information and ideas.

A day prior to the conference, a unique event ‘Connexions’ was organised. ‘Connexions’ presented an opportunity for delegates to learn about various skill sets and competencies which need to be acquired by healthcare professionals.

The conference was inaugurated by Air Marshal Pawan Kapoor, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Ex Director General Medical Services (Air).

The valedictory ceremony was held in the august presence of Girish Mahajan, Minister for Water Resources & Medical education, Government of Maharashtra and Dr Ravi Wankhedkar, National President, Indian Medical Association.
