Sharp decline in funds for schemes dealing with malnutrition

Rs 8335.77 crore allocated to ICDS for the financial year 2015-16

Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, has informed that the government has announced a 50 per cent decrease of budget allocation to all schemes dealing with malnutrition for the financial year 2015-16 as compared to last year.

The Budget Allocation for the year 2015-16 is given below:

As reported by some Ministry officials, in the current year there has been a drastic reduction in the fund allocation for the development of women and children. The Plan outlay of the Ministry which was Rs 21,000 crores in 2014-15, has been cut to Rs 10,286.73 crores in 2015-16. The maximum allocation of 8335.77 crores has been given to Integrated Women and Child Development scheme (ICDS) which is significantly low from last year’s budget of 18,195 crores.
