Mumbai cadaver donations see increase in yearly figures

ZTCC with Asian Heart Institute felicitates families of cadaver organ donors for their contribution in saving lives of patients

On the occasion of Maharashtra Organ Donor Felicitation Day, Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) partnered with Asian Heart Institute to felicitate families of cadaver organ donors for their contribution in saving lives of patients in need. This is the first time the felicitation programme was held in a private hospital. Of 45 donor families across various hospitals in Mumbai were felicitated of which 41 were present at the venue.

The event, attended by about 200 people saw doctors like Dr GB Daver, President, ZTCC, Dr Sujata Patwardhan, Dr Suhasini Nagda, Director of Medical Education, Avinash Supe, Dean, KEM hospital, Dr Suleman Merchant, Dean, Sion Hospital, Dr Bhavesh Vora, Consulting Nephrologist, AHI and Dr Vijay D’silva, Medical Director, AHI. The chief guests were television actors Shivaji Satam and Dinesh Fadnis.

This year saw an increase in the number of cadaver donors to 45 donors, compared to last year’s 27. As part of creating more awareness, Asian Heart is also running a social awareness campaign for all its employees and is reaching out to colleges and corporates for the same. The campaign is titled DO which stands for Donate Organs, listen to your heart.
