Pilot programme will come up at Melghat in Amravati district
Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, is on a week-long visit to US. Besides holding talks with many leading entrepreneurs in the US, he recently met Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella in Seattle as well. This software giant has offered a support for the development of ‘digital village’ and ‘smart city’ in Maharashtra. Moreover, in a significant development, Microsoft has also assured technology support to provide healthcare services in remote tribal areas in Maharashtra. Pilot programme will come up at Melghat in Amravati district.
About 15 per cent area of the state is habitated by tribal population, which is scattered among around 6000 villages across the state. Microsoft’s initiative will definitely help a huge chunk of population living in these villages. Given the geographical and financial limitations, tribals are comparatively more deprived of healthcare solutions in the state. However, taking a leaf out of Microsoft’s initiative, Maharashtra government should also think about collaborating with other IT measures to make healthcare services available in other remote villages in the state.
