GCDC annual edition to focus on monitoring diabetes, liberating the heart

The conclave will launch online and offline learning programmes for the benefits of students and early career doctors aiming specialisation in Cardio Diabetic Medicine

The Global Cardio Diabetes Conclave (GCDC) edition 2018 will be organised by Dr Siddharth Shah, Organising Chairman; Dr S Arulrhaj, Executive Patron; Dr YP Munjal, Chief Patron and Dr Mangesh Tiwaskar, Organising Secretary. It will be held from September 28 to 30, 2018.

A strong correlation between cardiovascular disease and diabetes is now well established. The American Heart association considers that individuals with insulin resistance or diabetes are more likely to fall victim to heart disease or stroke.

  • Prevalence of CAD is 68 per cent in diabetics of more than 10 years duration.
  • Presentation of CAD in diabetics is often silent Myocardial infarction & have more extensive & diffuse lesion in coronaries most common being LAD followed by RCA & Left Circumflex.
  • Complications in diabetic CAD are 2-5 fold increased risk heart failure compared to non diabetes.
  • Mortality is twice as high in diabetic patients and non diabetic-35.9 per cent versus, 17.9 per cent .Diabetol

The theme of the conclave is ‘Monitor Diabetes & Liberate the Heart’ and the vision of it is to become a unique forum for clinicians from Cardiology, Diabetes, Internal Medicine across geographies to come together and share their clinical experiences in management of Cardiovascular diseases in diabetics.

GCDC organises an annual conference every year in India and CMEs round the year globally to debate and to discuss latest scientific developments in the fields of Cardio Diabetology. The conclave will launch online and offline learning programmes for the benefits of students and early career doctors aiming specialisation in Cardio Diabetic Medicine.

The first day will witness guest lectures on DM & CVD Risk Newer Horizons. Some of the other events to be held are ECG Workshops; GCDC orations; Symposium on ‘Ups & Downs Glycemic – challenges’; panel discussion on ‘Diabetic Hypertension’, etc. The next day will have sessions on the Future of Diabetology; Life Style Medicine; Newer Practice in HF Management; New Frontiers in T2DM Mx; Honour lectures in Atherogenic Diabetic Dyslipdemia; etc.

The last day will focus on Women & Diabetes; Diabetic Kidney Disease; Cardio Diabetic Neurology; Paediatric Diabetology; Preventive Cardio Diabetes Medicine; etc.

Some of the international faculties invited for this conference are Prof Dr Liviu Klein, Associate Professor of Medicine; Division of Cardiology, University of California San Francisco; Prof Dr Luigi Gnudi, Professor of Diabetes and Metabolic Medicine/Honorary Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology; Prof Dr Ram Dhillon, Consultant Ear Nose & Throat Surgeon & Head & Neck Surgeon; Prof Dr Avijit Lahiri, Director, Cardiac Imaging Research Department, Wellington Hospital, London; etc.

GCDC will also support general practitioners from smaller towns to come forward to present their clinical experience in ground level management of cardiovascular disorders in diabetics so that they can update their knowledge & skills in this key clinical arena. It will further give opportunity to medical students and researchers to present their work as papers and posters during the annual conference.
