With an aim to achieve a diabetes-free Bengaluru and dispel all patient concerns and doubts on the disease, BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital launched a free diabetes support group on WhatsApp on the occasion of World Diabetes Day. The WhatsApp group number 9108686400 was released during the event. The number is open to all those who require advice and suggestions. The event was chaired by Dr Srinath A, Consultant Endocrinologist, BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital along with Karthigai Selvi, Chief Dietitian, BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital and other certified diabetes nurse educators from BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital.

Dr Srinath said, “Most diabetics in India are unaware about the triggers to diabetes and poor blood glucose control like practising poor diet and sedentary lifestyle with inadequate exercise compounded by stress which could lead to development of diabetes. Medication alone is not the only solution so it is important to adopt the right approach with good lifestyle. The objective behind launching a free diabetes support group on WhatsApp is to provide a one-stop platform to address all patient concerns regarding the disease. It is a platform where they can interact, learn and share knowledge with each other. This will hopefully increase our reach amongst patients who are in dire need of awareness to help manage the condition.”

The queries will be addressed by medical experts including endocrinologist, diabetes nurse educators and dietician of the hospital. Following up on this, every month the team will also conduct meetings at the hospital to discuss various aspects of the treatment of diabetes, including preventive measures and debunking of myths.

The launch was done in the presence of members from the neighbouring communities and patients from the hospital.
