The initiative was carried out in coordination with Azim Premji Foundation where 7000 sanitary pads were distributed

In a bid to ensure personal hygiene for women at COVID-19 quarantine centres, the district administration at Balodabazar in Chhattisgarh distributed sanitary napkins, an official said.

The authorities kicked off the initiative at a quarantine centre in Karmada village in the district recently, said Ashutosh Pandey, CEO, Balodabazar Zilla Panchayat.

“At present, the district has 763 quarantine facilities, where migrant workers were put up following their arrival from other states amid the lockdown,” he said.

“At least 7,000 sanitary pads will be distributed to women at these centres,” Pandey said.

Balodabazar is the first district in the state to come up with this initiative, which is being carried out in coordination with Azim Premji Foundation, he said.

Women migrant workers hailed the move and expressed their gratitude to the administration.

“We are glad that the district administration realised the importance of availability of sanitary pads and has come forward to help women in this time of crisis,” said Anita Kumbhkar, who is quarantined at Karmada after returning from Maharashtra.
