On the occasion of International Nurses Day 2014, PD Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre informed that this year it will support the World Health Organization, Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals in line with the International Council of Nurses theme “Nurses: A force for Change – A Vital Resource for Health”.

The nurses at PD Hinduja would participate in ensuring access for all people to use the preventive and curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services they need of sufficient quality to be effective without causing financial hardship. They would also continue to take steps towards preventing and controlling non communicable diseases, supporting persons with disabilities, drug addictions and mental health problems with feet on the ground to assist during disasters and conflicts as necessary, informed a release by the hospital.

The PD Hinduja Hospital will recognise the International Council of Nursing theme and focus on the vital resource that is the nursing workforce, as the largest group of health professionals. Nurses are going through an increasing gap between the supply and demand of healthcare workers, migration and the working life span of nurses. To accommodate these challenges the hospital will emphasise on workforce planning and link it to patient safety, measure nurses workload and plan for safe staffing. Improving the work environment for nurses to improve patient safety and quality healthcare has been always emphasised and will be continued in the future.

On International Nurses Day, PD Hinduja Hospital will see an array of knowledge sharing endeavours to discuss ‘Elements Change in Nursing 2014-15’ along with a presentation on ‘Excellence in patient care delivery:- Nursing strategies to achieve better health for all’ and ‘Endeavours in patient safety; To improve nursing care quality’ and finally an emphasis on ‘Nursing empowerment’ to summarise the global position of a nurse.
