Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Faridabad, a super-speciality hospital created a bench mark in the field of medical care by conducting a first of its kind of rare surgery in Delhi NCR region. Dr Mukesh Goel, Chief Cardiac Surgeon, Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Pawan Gupta and Dr Gaurav Goel, operated on 40-year-old Isam from Iraq, who was suffering from a rare disease Dysphasia Lusoria.
Isam had been suffering from a birth defect Dysphasia Lusoria which resulted in severe problem in swallowing the food. He consulted the doctors in Iraq several times but could not get relief. Doctor in Iraq advised him to go for the treatment in India. He was admitted in the hospital and operated recently.
“We have seen such kind of case for the first time in Delhi NCR. This is a abnormal condition characterised by difficulty in swallowing caused by aberrant right subclavian artery. During development of aortic arch, if the proximal portion of the right fourth arch disappears instead of distal portion, the right subclavian artery will arise as the last branch of aortic arch. It then courses behind the oesophagus to supply blood to right arm. This causes pressure on oesophagus and results in dysphagia,” said Dr Mukesh Goel.
According to Dr. Gaurav Goel, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, “We have surgically repaired the valve and positioned it on its correct place. The patient started showing dramatic improvement within three to four days of initiating the treatment and was discharged within a week.”
Dr NK Pandey, Chairman and Managing Director, Asian Institute of Medical Sciences said, “I would like to congratulate Dr Mukesh Goel and his team for operating this rare case for the first time Delhi NCR and thank to the patient’s family for having faith on our hospital.”
