Fresh MBBS graduates will soon get an opportunity for training in India and the United Kingdom as part of the ‘2+2 training module’ instituted by the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO). The announcement was made at the 10th Annual Conference of GAPIO held at Nagpur from January 4-5, 2020.
GAPIO and Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the conference to provide the training. This unique module provides MBBS graduates with an opportunity to get trained by international faculties for first two years followed by on-job training in the UK for next two years.
Fresh MBBS graduates who join this course will be trained for MRCP (UK) examination of skills, knowledge and behaviour of doctors, which is mandatory for working in the UK. Dr Anupam Sibal, President-elect, GAPIO, said that the strength of Indian doctors working abroad will be used effectively to groom Indian doctors.
The annual GAPIO international conference – which was held in a non-metro city for the first time – was attended by more than 3,000 delegates from different countries and over 120 scientific papers were presented at the two-day conference.
Dr BJ Subhedar inaugurated the conference and Dr Prakash Amtey was the guest of honour. GAPIO Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on Dr MK Mani, Nephrologist, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, for his greatest contribution to the community by Ajay Sancheti, Former Member of Rajya Sabha.
GAPIO Special Contribution Award was conferred on Dr Ramesh Mehta who gave new direction to GAPIO and brought GAPIO to new heights during his presidentship. Awards were also presented to young doctors for poster and paper presentation.
The next midyear conference of GAPIO will be held on May 3-4, 2020 at Moscow and May 7, 2020 at St Petersburg.
