The dispenser is based on water mist aerator technology

Adding one more achievement to its kitty, ITI Cuttack has set another example. In its continuous quest to contribute towards the fight against COVID-19, the institute has developed a contact-less automatic sanitizer dispenser.

The contactless sanitizer dispenser can spray alcohol-based hand rub sanitizer solution for sanitization of hands while entering the buildings/office complexes, etc. It is based on water mist aerator technology, which was developed from water conservation.

According to Dr Hrusikesh Mohanty, Principal, Govt ITI Cuttack, the unit operates without contact and is activated through an ultrasonic sensor. A single fluid nozzle with a low flow rate is used to generate aerated mist to dispense the hand rub sanitizer. This sanitizes the hands with minimum wastage. Using atomiser, only 5-6 ml sanitizer is released for three seconds in one operation and it gives the full cone spray over both palms so that disinfection operation of hands is complete.

On being asked about how many days it took to manufacture the contactless sanitizer dispenser, Dr Mohanty informed, “With all the components available and arranged, the assembly can be completed within 30-45 minutes. Initially, the time taken was around 10 days to decide on the body type, required components and supply source.”

ITI Cuttack spent around Rs 4500 to manufacture the dispenser. Dr Mohanty said, “The market price could be around Rs 7000.”

A Delhi-based private firm helped the ITI team in Cuttack to source all the components to manufacture the dispenser.

According to Dr Mohanty, apart from hospitals, the hand sanitizer dispenser can be used in public offices. While mentioning about the challenges, he talked about the initial difficulties sourcing the logistics.

Government of Odisha plans to install this machine across its offices, healthcare facilities and secretaries.
